Day45 Mission22

ONE MAN ONE MISSION TO SAVE THOUSANDS

Started the day going with Beverly to a road race in See conk, Ma. Afterwards we went back to the house to finish packing and the to Johns to pick up kayak with her dump truck.

Drove to Cape Ann Campsites where I will launch in the river to go to Stage Fort Park in Gloucester.

Day44 Mission22

ONE MAN ONE MISSION TO SAVE THOUSANDS

John took me to post office to mail out 4 packages. Then we went out later and found the deck line/ bungee line fittings for yak. I have 3 that need immediate replacement.

Beverly came and picked me up. We are going by water taxi to Spectcle island for her run. They messed up the registration and she wasn’t on the list.

We are enjoying the rest of the day together.

Wanted Heros

I know a number of people are following this blog and some consider me a hero for what I am doing.

I will consider my mission a failure if I reach Key West without raising hundreds of thousands of dollars.

You can be my hero by donating to the cause.

My paddling 2000 miles will pale in comparison to what you can accomplish by donating. You are saving a life and a family. I mean that is truly awesome.

So please save a life today!

Day42  Mission22

ONE MAN ONE MISSION TO SAVE THOUSANDS.

talked to Channel 7 news they are coming to camp to do interview.

Packing up. High tide is at 10:59am I want to launch at 11.

Bill is coming to shoot photos.

Decided to paddle backside of Plum Island for safety.

River at south end wasn’t any better. Crossed river was hugging shore along Crane’s beach.

Came ashore and set up dolly for portage.

Ended up portage almost the entire length of Crane’s.

It was getting dark ended up going up Essex river to Essex.

Found boat ramp went .2 mile to hotel which was booked solid.

Called my friend John who came to pick me up.

Day 41 Mission22

ONE MAN ONE MISSION TO SAVE THOUSANDS.

Well the surf in the mouth of the Merrimac river is pounding 14-15 ft high. A 20 foot boat capsized with 2 on board. Neither had pfds. One made it one didn’t.

Walk to check in pay one more night. Found restaurant that delivers, hot lunch cold dinner.

Tomorrow promises to be better.

Day 40 Mission22

ONE MAN ONE MISSION TO SAVE THOUSANDS

Well the weather isn’t being cooperative today. High winds rain rough seas. Tomorrow is supposed to be much better. I hope so. I am so off schedule right now.

I am glad I have 2 short paddles next 2 days then a long one to get to where I need to be.

Well the Salisbury State Campground like anything in this state leaves much to be desired. I  am paying $34 a night for a water electric site which is okay as I need power but they didn’t flush the water lines so the first few minutes were rust even with a few sites in use.

There is a camp store which would be nice if it was open I mean its the first week of June and there are a number of campers here. I was told it is under contract. Well they should cancel it and give it to someone who will run the store.

Then there is the cleaning crew for the bath houses. The guy licks them both up while he cleans one. He leaves that one locked while he cleans the other. Not to mention they were both locked while he disappeared for a few hours. What lousy service for the money you spend.

Then last night ranger rick shows up with outdated information telling me I should be gone. I said nope I paid for another night.

I went to pay for one more night and was double billed. They had to call somebody to find out how to void one of the transactions.

Typical state run department.

Day 39 Mission22

ONE MAN ONE MISSION TO SAVE THOUSANDS

Well today didn’t go as planned. Packed up camp and headed for boat ramp. Was leaving at end of high tide. Looked out toward ocean and the fog was rolling in. Within minutes you couldn’ t see the other side of the river.

Went to office and got site for another day. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Day 38 Mission22

ONE MAN ONE MISSION TO SAVE THOUSANDS

Well we got the seat installed. Since I had to remove the keel tape for repairs I have 2 layers of gorilla tape on keel.

Took yak to nearby lake for test run.  No leaks well balanced travels smoothly through the water.

We packed up all the gear and my son drove me to Salisbury state campground.

I will launch from here in the morning.
