Latest update

So far for sponsors I have Bending Branches Paddles, Backpackers Pantry, and now I have West Marine and Garmin have come on board. Welcome to the expedition.

I am still waiting to hear from Necky, Delta and Current Design kayaks and Kokatat to see if any one of these fine companies will join us.

I am also waiting to hear back from Maui Jim and Costa Del Sol sunglasses.

I can see two great reasons for one of them to want to be a part of this, first it is helping our veterans that are in trouble suffering from PTSD and TBI, 2nd when was the last time one of their kayaks was used for a 2000 mile expedition.

From a marketing stand point alone their are thousand of veterans out there coming home that need to get back to normal living. Kayaking is a great stress reliever! Showing you care about veterans is a sure fired way to get them as customers. That your kayak is built with such craftsmanship and quality that it can endure a 2000 mile expedition and keep going.

I may be one person but I represent thousands and will be speaking on their behalf when I make my stops. It would be great advertisement if they see your sticker on the kayak.

RED FEATHER

indian-feather-red-indian-feathers-131425

A good friend of mine gave me a small container of red feather pins. He didn’t tell me what it meant he just said look it up.

For Native Americans (I am 1/4 Cherokee) if you are given a red feather it is a sign of strength and integrity. This is an honor receiving this from someone who thinks you have these qualities

Especially with this trip coming up.

We know integrity is doing the right thing always even when no one is looking.

Strength we first think of muscular strength. But strength has many meanings look it up in a thesaurus because there are far too many to write them a here.

After reading through the list I discovered that I have a number of the traits mentioned and that I will need to call upon each and everyone of them during this trip and even planning for it.

S I want to thank my friend John for thinking so highly of me to honor me with a red feather. I will wear them proudly.

Garmin is on board!

I had sent an email to West Marine asking them to donate a Garmin Gpsmaps 78 SC. They responded with a email stating they contacted Garmin on my behalf and Garmin is donating one. I will check it out and write a review once I receive it.

Thank you Heather Steinberger from West Marine for your awesome service.

Thanksgiving

As  contemplate how much work I have left planning all the stops to fundraiser for Mission22, I am thankful that I am healthy enough to make this trip. I am thankful for my family and friends.

But, I cannot help thinking of the struggles that my fellow vets are dealing with trying to get through this holiday and those that may not make the next.

These thoughts renews my energy and determination to succeed in my journey.

To instill compassion into those I meet to make them aware and to educate them. I am but one life on a mission to save thousands and I cannot truly enjoy until I have reach the end of my trip.

I am still hoping that I can get the kayak I need to make the trip easier and safer either through the company sponsor program or raise the funds through my gofundme.

I received good news today that Garmin is donating the GPS unit I would like to take with me. A very grateful thank you to Garmin.

I only have 5 months to go before I start.

Camping along the East Coast

In planning my expedition I had to consider where to sleep at night. Being a member of Good Sam Club I had the campground directory.

So I sat here one day researching campgrounds along the east coast that would be close enough to the coast to portage using a dolly like a C-TUG.

I am sharing this with you to help you plan your adventure along the coast.

Enjoy!!
